Every girl dreams of going to her high school prom in a beautiful gown,
feeling like Cinderella on the arm of her Prince Charming. For some, the
high cost of prom keeps that special dream from becoming a reality.
The Cinderella Affair is an all-volunteer project supported by Tempe Community
Council, the City of Tempe and the East Valley Women's League. It is our
mission to make attending prom affordable for all Phoenix-area high school
junior and senior students. The program was founded in 2002 to assist
girls by collecting and distributing gently-used formalwear. High school
junior and senior girls are invited to attend a boutique in the Spring,
where they shop for a dress and accessories free of charge. Volunteers
act as personal shoppers, working diligently to make the whole experience
unforgettable. A few of our dedicated volunteers even work as seamstresses,
doing on-the-spot alterations, making sure the dresses are a perfect fit.
In 2007, the Cinderella Affair assisted girls from 46 high schools. For
additional information, click here.
The Cinderella Affair has also provided dresses for exchange students
from the Tempe Sister Cities program, the clients of the Hacienda de Los
Angels, and young ladies participating in the Miss CHAMPION Pageant.
In 2004, The Cinderella Affair expanded to lend a hand to some Prince
Charmings in need of assistance with tuxedo rentals. By working closely
with Mr.
Formal, a local tuxedo rental chain, The Cinderella Affair is able
to supply a number of tuxedo rentals free of charge to the Valley's male
students in need. Information about this part of our program can be found
by clicking here.
